After being taken to good schools where their parents have had hopes of having them become accountants or doctors, Distruction Boyz' Thobani 'Que' Mgobhozi and Zipho 'Goldmax' Mthembu chased gqom, and boy were their parents worried at first.

Speaking on DJ Fresh's Metro FM show on Thursday morning, the Omunye hitmakers shared how they initially felt like "failures" for not living up to what their parents expected.

"Honestly speaking in the beginning it wasn't nice or easy for us because what we used to do for exposure, we would go out and perform for free. We would make music for other people for free. So that our name could be known.

"It wasn't easy coming back home in the morning at six or seven from a night away not carrying anything because it wasn't easy for them to take us to those (good) schools and to still have to provide for us," Que said.

The duo, who grew up together in KZN, also shared that their mothers have been best friends since long before they were born.

They wanted to make their parent's proud and their determination to do that eventually paid off when they blew up.

"But we started getting the graft and things started looking up and when they started seeing the amount of work that we are doing - not only for us but for other young people from KZN but for SA as well, they were proud of us because we were touring and representing SA and all that. They started being proud of us and supporting us."

Since Babes Wodumo's Wololo burst into the spotlight, the boys have done amazing things for themselves and have gifted Mzansi with great gqom tracks.

A year after their debut album, Gqom Is The Future was released, the boys released another Dezemba playlist for all DJs to mess with this festive season.

The album, titled It Was All A Dream, is guaranteed to be a winner this party season with features like DJ Tira, Mr Eazi and Dladla Mshunqisi among others.

Goldmax just blessed himself with a flashy new ride, a VW GTI, and Que recently became a dad to a baby boy.

Ku busy in the guys' lives but at least they are also helping us get busy with their music.
