Actress Sisekho Velelo has delved into the deep emotions of being a surrogate mother in her new role on Generations: The Legacy.

Sisekho recently made her debut on the show as Grace, the surrogate for Wandi (played by Chi Mhende).

Sisekho told TshisaLIVE she went through a range of emotions in playing Grace and wanted to break stigmas around surrogacy.

"Surrogacy can sometimes be in conflict with Christianity and so it can be tricky to navigate. Too many people think that people who want surrogates are morally flawed or are doing it for vanity. Often these are people who want children more than anything in the world and are just not able to have kids. They also think that women who can't have children are less when that is not accurate at all."

Big name celebs like Kim Kardashian and Gabrielle Union have both used surrogates in recent years and have covered some ground with breaking stereotypes around the practice.

Sisekho said it was great that Kim was so open about her difficulties with giving birth and her journey of using a surrogate because her experience educated so many women.

"Kim has been open about the heartbreak she feels with her body not being able to handle her having anymore kids and the fact that another woman is willing to help her speaks to the camaraderie among women that we should be celebrating."

Despite the lessons, Sisekho said she would have to think long and hard about being a surrogate in real life.

"I don't think I could do it. It's an extremely emotional experience. Being a mom and knowing what it is like to have a child growing inside of you, I cannot imagine how I could give my child away at the end of a pregnancy. The bond you form is incredible and extremely difficult. It may be too much for me emotionally."
