Lockdown actress Dineo Nchabeleng has joined Cici, Kelly Khumalo, Nelisiwe Sibiya and other strong women in using their platforms to raise awareness about women and children abuse.

Dineo had joined the 16 Days of Activism campaign and told TshisaLIVE that abuse has always been a subject she wanted to lend a hand in curbing.

But, she admits, it wasn’t until she became a mother that the urgency of that assignment dawned on her.

“The moment I became a parent, things changed. I’m a woman who is a mother to a girl child. So it’s so much more for me. It could be me or my daughter so it’s important we speak out against these heinous acts against women and children,” she said.

Dineo, who shot into the spotlight as Angela on Generations, said she the campaign has helped her realise that for abuse to end we all needed to work together.

“I think anyone who is a survivor, known or unknown, is an inspiration enough to want to do something to put a stop to this plight of abuse that is growing like weeds in our country. There’s so much we all can do together to make our home a better place to live in.”

The actress said she believed in the power of speaking against abuse and the change it brings.

“The conversations and actions sparked here (in this campaign), need not end (at the end of 16 days). If we keep talking and lending a hand, we will not be subject to any of it anymore. Our children deserve a better life.”
