Maps Maponyane shares his heartbreak over a failed business
In addition to being a model and presenter, Maps Maponyane is an entrepreneur and he's opened up about the lessons he's learnt the hard way when a business failed.
Maps took to Twitter to share that after trying to save his business from death's door multiple times, he finally had to accept that it had died along with his life savings.
4 years ago I had taken all my savings & backed what I thought to have been a brilliant business idea. A great team was built around it, & I continued to put whatever I could into to just give it a fair chance, even if investors weren't going to.

This week we had to close it.😔
Maps explained that it was a tech business centred around niche music markets and that he had sacrificed a lot to keep alive.
“It was on the brink of death numerous times and just kept resuscitating it with every chance we could. Promises being made, and not being kept. Waiting on people to pull through for you to survive...and making a plan to cut everything else to keep it alive in any way possible."
The model said the business became exhausting for him and a source of frustration for him.
“Eventually, with every option exhausted, just like everyone involved trying to get it back on its feet and running comfortably, it had to be put on life support. By then the frustration is too much, you've done everything you can, and you just have to close your eyes and let go.”
Maps said in the spirit of keeping it real on these social media streets, he felt it important to share his journey and his failure. He said that he had decided to bag the lessons and soldier on.
So many invaluable lessons learned from it, and a reminder of the level of risk that comes with it all. Dust off and now to do better in the next one, there's always the next one, and now you're that much better prepared for it.👊🏽🙏🏾

Twitter praised Maps for opening up and speaking about his failures instead of falling into the trap of "Abantu bazothini" and being depressed all by himself.
They encouraged him to take lessons and use them to build up other business ideas.
