What's with the name? Khanyi Mbau’s gin splits Twitter
As Dezemba creeps up on us, Khanyi Mbau has launched a brand of gin that people are scrambling to get their hands on.
Khanyi launched the firewater named, I am Khanyi recently and said she was involved in the entire process - from design to flavour concepts.
And while there is a long line of people eager to give it a try, its name and striking pink bottle has got tongues wagging.
Some dudes suggested that it would be weird for them to order a pink bottle at the bar.
Khanyi came with the answer to make them understand.
Thank you 🙏🏽 .. research shows that there are more WOMEN than MEN! ☝🏽!!! Finally something woman don’t have to share! #IAMKHANYI https://t.co/QK2QHwRNWK

Besides this, the bottle has gotten rave reviews from across the board. The only issue some people had with it was the name.
Dope. The name of the Gin is awful and unnecessary. https://t.co/vFl8QmoLBR

Fans thought it was a mouthful, which could make things difficult when you're drunk and suggested Khanyi simplify the name of the drink to just "Khanyi".
One user even suggested she call it LamboGin.
I AM KHANYI sound more like a fragrance than alcohol

When it's Johnnie Walker, Tanqueray, Ballantines or Jack Daniels, the name is fine.

But when it's Khanyi Mbau Gin, we as South Africans think it's "poor brand name" or "poor branding".

Khanyi has told TshisaLIVE about the reasons for her naming the alcohol after herself, explaining that she wanted to share a part of herself with the people.
"We have had such a rough year as a country. From death threats because of polony to the political situation, we have been drained. I decided to share myself with everyone and bring joy," she said.
