Sarah Langa on facing her 'worst nightmare' during #Sasol attack

Influencer and socialite Sarah Langa Mackay has joined numerous people who have come out to share chilling stories of being attacked after the Global Citizen Festival outside FNB Stadium on Sunday night. 

Sarah recounted how men covered her face during the crime spree that took place at the Sasol petrol station near the stadium. Sarah is one of dozens of people who were mugged and attacked during the ambush. 

Victims claimed that there was no visible police or security personnel in the area. Police have disputed this with national police spokesperson Vish Naidoo telling TimesLIVE that officers did not leave their posts until hours after the show ended.

Taking to Twitter Sarah described the ambush as a scene out of a horror movie.

"Last night was straight out of a horror movie, my worst nightmare. The Purge in reality."

She recounted how she was ambushed by men and was only able to escape after an unidentified man came to her rescue.

"Last night someone put their entire life at risk to protect me by fighting off the men that had attacked me. A group of men attacked me and covered my head. Imagine what they were planning to do with me! I thank him with all my life. I don't have his name or number but thank you so much!". 

Comedian and TV personality Siv Ngesi was also near the scene and recounted the screams that rang out.

"Every step you would hear ladies screaming! Ladies holding their bags tightly! It was ruthless. I have never felt so hopeless to protect women that I was walking with!". 

Musician Simphiwe Dana was also waiting for an Uber outside the stadium after the concert and told fans she was caught in a stampede.

"Security and police presence was very thin. Thank God we only heard of the muggings, stabbings and rapes and didn't experience them ourselves. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to all those who became victims."
