Most females in SA don't feel safe but for women in the LGBTQ+ community the danger feels twice as much and that is part of the reason Mandisa Nduna has joined the Black Brains 16 Days of Activism campaign.

The actress-turned-rapper told TshisaLIVE that one of the fundamental reasons why she's an advocate for women and children is because it's a horrible experience to be a woman in SA.

"I think it is horrible to be a black woman in SA. I think it's a horrible experience and most of the women in this country would most definitely leave if they were empowered enough economically and financially. Yes, there's abuse everywhere but this country in particular is one of the worst.

"I am a big advocate for women's rights as well as LGBTQ+ rights, so any campaign that is involved in that, in any way shape or form, I will take that opportunity. My activism is through my art," Mandisa explained.

Mandisa said all women have experienced some form of abuse in their life.

"I think we've all experienced abuse in some way, shape or form. There are some forms of abuse that aren't spoken about as much, like mental abuse and emotional abuse... I think we've all experienced it to some degree."

She said that the way women still thrive after some of their experiences is a testament of strength.

"Women in this country, women in the world but particularly black women in this country have been put through hell and continue to be put through hell. We go through the most on a daily basis. No matter your age, sexual preference, background or where you live, you are most likely to experience some kind of abuse and harassment.. Sometimes on a daily basis as well. That's why we need to speak out against abuse every time we see it and take action where and when we can."
