Mzansi started paying attention to Robbie Malinga Jnr soon after he took time to send shoutouts to his friends while giving a eulogy at his father's funeral. The late musician's son has been topping Twitter trends lists ever since.

Here are five times he set social media alight in 2018.

Instagram takeover

Renowned musician and producer Robbie Malinga passed away on Christmas Day in 2017. Five months later his son, also named Robbie, took over his Instagram account.

At first, followers of the late musician were confused and shocked that the youngster seemed to be recklessly spending money on flashy clothes, accessories and cars. Robbie Jnr's posts were much more extravagant than what his father's fans were used to.

Uncanny resemblance

People on social media noted a resemblance between Malinga Jnr and soccer player Reneilwe Letsholonyane. Others pointed out that the young man also looked a bit like entrepreneur Tbo Touch.

Not one to shy away from attention, Robbie Jnr soon posted a pic of himself flanked by both his lookalikes.

Those claps back

In August, TshisaLIVE showed Junior what people were saying about him on Twitter and asked him to respond.

Among other things, he said: "Y'all aren't ready. You'll never be ready with me."

Drama Queen of the Year nomination

"Mr It's Too Much", as Junior likes to call himself, was one of the contenders for Drama Queen of the Year at the Feather Awards in November.

A lot of people thought the recognition was fitting.

However, he lost the award to AKA and Bonang Matheba, whose break-up was surely one of the messiest celebrity splits Mzansi has seen in a long time.

About that muscle

Speaking of the Feather Awards, it will be a while before people forget the day Robbie Jnr announced: "I'm an important person who always needs to be protected."

It was at the Feather Awards that he showed up with two hefty men, who he introduced as his bodyguards.
