Hip-hop may be known for its flashy rides, expensive chains and over-the-top egos but rapper Cassper Nyovest has broken away from the stereotype to reflect on his battle with depression.
The star, who has been struggling with dark thoughts and depression, shared how music helped him "get out" of his dark place.
"This verse from Omen helped me get out [of my] depression. Used to play J Cole's Enchanted back to back for months on end when I felt down," he wrote, next to the lyrics from the song.
Cassper was flooded with messages of support after the post, including from Omen himself.
The star also hinted at a future collab with Cassper.
It comes just weeks after Cassper spoke out about how he battled with depression prior to the release of his debut album five years ago. He urged his followers to never give up, no matter how hopeless it seemed.
"I was broke as hell and depressed five years ago. My debut album dropped just five years ago. Today I am seen as an inspiration to all kinds of people. Black, white, young and old. I appreciate my life so much. Crazy what God can do in your life in just five years. Please don’t give up."
The Tito Mboweni hitmaker teamed up with Major League DJz last year on a track about depression. Speaking to TshisaLIVE at the time, the group said they decided to collaborate with Cassper on the project as a way to share their struggles with depression and anxiety.
