South Africans have lashed out at the justice system and have filled social media timelines with comments of outrage ever since video clips of the alleged assault of Babes Wodumo at the hands of her longterm boyfriend and musician Mampintsha went viral on Monday morning.

Video clips which were recorded from Babes’ Instagram Live showed a man, alleged to be musician Mampintsha, slapping Babes.

In the video, Babes could be heard swearing at the man, who responded by slapping her. The man then walked away, before returning seconds later to hit her again.

Babes’ sister, and PR manager Nondumiso Simelane, verified the authenticity of the viral video exposing the alleged abuse of the gqom star, allegedly at the hands of Mampintsha, to TshisaLIVE.

“Babes’ lips are swollen, but she didn’t go to the hospital after the beating and Mampintsha is nowhere to be found. He’s gone AWOL.”

Nondu said Mampintsha and Babes had been in a toxic relationship and it needed to end.

Several attempts to get comment from Mampintsha’s management proved futile.

The alleged abuse has sparked several trending hashtags on Twitter, along with calls for  Babes to lay criminal charges with the police.

Twitter has called for Babes’ family to lay charges on her behalf, as stipulated in the Constitution of South Africa, and they’ve asked the police to do right by Babes by finding and arresting Mampintsha.

Fans have also called for a boycott of Mampintsha.
