Some of Mzansi's most famous faces have joined the chorus of outrage at the murder of a 19-year-old pupil  from Mondeor High School in Johannesburg.

Kulani Mathebula was fatally stabbed as he walked from home to school on Wednesday morning. The incident happened at a park near his home, close to a police station.

Police and Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi had told the media that they believed three suspects were behind the killing. Three suspects have since been arrested, all of them schoolchildren between the ages of 13 and 15.

The killing sparked outrage on social media, with many sharing their shock that a 13-year-old child may be behind it.

Comedian Lasizwe Dambuza was one of several celebrities who took to Twitter to vent their anger.

In a video, the former Mondeor High School pupil said he was saddened by the news and called for an end to school violence.

"These criminals just want your cellphone, money or school bag ... It is outrageous. It is disgusting that someone has to lose their life over valuables. We need to take charge. We need to take control. We can't keep losing lives."

Sports presenters Thabiso Sithole and Mpho Letsholonyane had a discussion on parenting and society's role in raising children the right way.

TV and radio star Lerato Kganyago responded to news of the killing, asking if the kids were "possessed".

Actor Zola Hashatsi took to Instagram to post a picture of the school's students in assembly and said that the community needed to unite to beat the scourge of violence in schools.
