Ntsiki Mazwai weighs in on #AlexTotalShutdown
"White People and our fellow Indians have never experienced any kind of violent protest because they have no reason to be unhappy"
TV star and musician Ntsiki Mazwai has shared her thoughts on protests that brought Alexandra to a standstill on Wednesday, suggesting that it was a symptom of a system that prioritises white people and Indians over black people.
The ANC in the greater Alexandra region on Monday called on all residents in the area to take part in a peaceful demonstration against corruption, poor policing and poor service delivery.
Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said on Wednesday that a small group of protesters was burning tyres on roads in the area, while other routes had been blocked.
While the protests made headlines across the country and topped the local Twitter trends list, Ntsiki took to the social media platform to share several articles and comments on the situation.
She then shared her own brief thoughts on the issue and claimed that "in South Africa, only blacks must suffer".

In January, Alexandra residents began evicting people from RDP houses, saying they had benefited from corruption in the allocation of the properties.
The JMPD said on Wednesday that two suspected "ring leaders" were arrested during the protests.
