The city of Los Angeles is honouring slain rapper Nipsey Hussle by naming an intersection after him.

The city announced that an intersection in the rapper's childhood neighbourhood of Crenshaw will be renamed "Ermias 'Nipsey Hussle' Asghedom Square". The renaming was prompted by an online petition to rename the intersection after Nipsey, Variety reported.

Grammy-nominated rapper Hussle was gunned down in March outside of his clothing store in Los Angeles. He was shot six times, including in the torso and the head, allegedly by Eric Holder.

Holder has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and attempted murder after he allegedly shot Hussle and wounded two others in an altercation.

A memorial for the rapper will be held at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles on Thursday and will be open to the public.

Tickets for the memorial are free, however some fans have started selling them online for up to $400 (R5,600), Los Angeles Times reported.
