Actress Thuso Mbedu has not just won the hearts of South Africans but has also gained international recognition.

From Emmy nominations to a Hollywood debut, here are some of our favourite moments from Thuso Mbedu.

Emmy nomination

In September 2017, Thuso was nominated for an international Emmy Award for her role as Winnie on Mzansi Magic’s Isithunzi.

“Isithunzi was a project that I got after not working for six months. So I remember going into that audition and saying I’m going to audition like it’s my last audition ever. I’m seeing God’s work right now,” she told TshisaLIVE

Generations

The Isithunzi actress joined the cast of Generations: The Legacy in 2018 to play an overly naive and hip youngster who stirred trouble in the Moroka household.

Thuso landed the gig after months of being out of work and not getting any opportunities.

Emmy nod 2.0

In September 2018, Thuso was once again nominated for an International Emmy Award for the second season of Isithunzi.

“Wow, look at God! To be nominated twice is amazing. The first time was great but this second time is sweeter,” she said in a statement following the nomination.

Although Thuso did not win the Emmy award for both nominations, the international nod set her on the right path.

The Underground Railroad

On Tuesday the actress announced that she would star in a Hollywood series titled The Underground Railroad.

Thuso will play the lead role as a character named Cora in the series based on Colson Whitehead’s 2016 novel.
