Hotstix and Galane set to thrill at the Joy of Jazz Ultimate African Jazz Experience

The legendary Sipho Hotstix Mabuse and Sello Galane will join the line-up for the Ultimate African Jazz Experience at the 23rd instalment of the Joy of Jazz

The popular jazz festival will take place at the Sandton Convention Centre on November 25 and 26.

Mabuse is set to take the Dinaledi Stage to offer a unique celebration of African musical heritage with a reimagined iteration of African songs in vintage Hostix style.

“Joy of Jazz, the ultimate African jazz experience, is a dream festival for any musician worth his / her salt. I always relish participation, performing on this excellently produced event. I cannot wait for November 26,” he said.

Galane will perform on the Conga Stage, presenting a refreshing Free Kiba experience, using a myriad of Alkebulan musical traditions. Galane has assembled a talented team of musicians from across the continent, including Ghana, Nigeria, SA and the DRC. Mabuse and Galane join a bold and locally focused line-up of artists curated to celebrate the music and talent of African jazz in its various guises.

Dr Galane had this to say about his upcoming performance: “After two and half years of indoor anxiety, come out and root for the Father of Free Kiba music of our continent weave his drum language artistry at the202 chapter of the exquisite Joy of Jazz experience. The 'Free Kiba Fest in Joy of Jazz' will rekindle the inner joy of music and the love of life and living after the gloomy losses of Covid-19. I will bring the Joy of Jazz experience 'a cut above the rest' Free Kiba performance.”

Charl du Plessis will feature in a rare double piano collaboration with David Cousin on second piano. They will be joined by drummer Peter Auret and Mihi Matshingana on vocals.
