Olympian and former Tropika Island of Treasure: All Stars contestant Alyssa Conley has opened up about events after she injured her knee in the Seychelles while she was competing.

Host Katlego Maboe said Alyssa had to be “rushed” back to South Africa after her injury.

The athlete shared a blow-by-blow account of what happened in several videos she posted on her Instagram timeline, saying she was only flown home two days later.

“My journey in the Seychelles after being injured was a super tough one. I wish I was flown home immediately (as said on the show), but I was only sent home two days later, and what a challenging two days it was. After my MRI scan I had to fend for myself, no pain medication. I slept on the couch, my room was on the second floor with no lift and I had to walk on this leg to get meals, but hey, thanks to my homies that had my back Tayne_devilliers, i_am_jaefit @roxylouw,” she posted.

In the comments section, actor and musician Clint Brink was disappointed that Alyssa was treated that way.

“This is how we’ve been experiencing treatment in the South African entertainment industry. Your wellbeing is not as important as their schedule and their product. I am gutted for you and disappointed that this type of behaviour is still so prevalent. I’m sorry, superstar,” he posted.

TshisaLIVE reached out to the SABC and producers of Tropika Island of Treasure: All Stars.

“While we regret that Alyssa injured herself running into the water, we find her comments on social media to be both false and defamatory. We are taking legal advice in this regard.”
