Idols South Africa judge Somizi Mhlongo shook the table when he said Idols top four contestant Thapelo Molomo sang Seasons better than Lloyiso Gijana, who's the original artist of the song.
Twitter was abuzz on Sunday and Monday with tweeps coming for the judge and businessman.
Thapelo performed Vusi Nova’s Ndikuthandile and Lloyiso’s Seasons, who made the top five on Idols when he was just 16 years of age.
“Nah Somizi, respect Lloyiso, no-one can do it better than the original artist, even Americans are going crazy [for] Lloyiso's version,” a tweep posted.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) also stepped in. They wished Thapelo all the best for his journey on the programme last week.
On Twitter, SAPS headquarters said: "#sapsHQ The #SAPS congratulates W/O Thapelo Molomo, one of the contestants who has made it through to #IdolsSA top 5. The SAPS wishes Thapelo best of luck on his Idols SA journey.”
Speaking to TshisaLIVE before his single release titled Speak, Lloyiso said he was grateful for the lessons he learnt since his 16-year-old self auditioned for Idols.
“That gap between when I was 16 to 23 was life-changing. That is a space where I learnt patience on another level because I wanted things to happen now. I was like, when am I releasing this song? I wanted to be Justin Bieber at 16 and famous. But if you are not meant to be famous at 16 you are not.
“There are a lot of things people deal with in the music industry that we don't know about. I'm really grateful I went into this space of finding myself, because if I were to be given this type of fame at 16 I would've drowned in it. The way I think now is different to how I thought then. I'm grateful I've learnt to grow.”
