Thuso Mbedu took it upon herself to stop a rumour doing the rounds on the socials that she had tied the knot.

Thuso has been on a world tour with co-stars promoting The Woman King film, and when some tweeps caught wind of the star's real age it caused quite a stir on Twitter, including whispers about her love life.

Setting the record straight, she took to her Twitter timeline to address questions about her age and marital status.

“Seeing as people like to tweet with their chests. Yes, I’m 31. No, I’m not married. No, I don’t have children that have come from my uterus but my nieces call me 'mam’ncane'  (younger mother) because that’s how we do it in the Zulu culture  and  love them like they are mine. As you were”

Thuso was recently interviewed by Trevor Noah on The Daily Show.

“You’re absolutely crushing it in everything you do,” said Trevor.

Thuso said she was determined to use her acting to change society and to be intentional with the characters she takes on instead of caring more about the money.

“I want to create the stories that are innately in us because growing up in this industry you believe you can be anything until you get into the industry and they tell you, no, you can’t.”

The star reflected on her travels, saying though she had to travel 21 hours to spend 48 hours in Mzansi, it was all worth it after spending an evening with the women in attendance at the event.

“Everyone thinks I am crazy that I flew 21 hours to be in South Africa for 48 hours and then leave again on another 21 hour flight. But getting to watch The Woman King movie and spend the evening with amazing women made all that worth it."
