International Men's Day is around the corner and Thato “TT” Mbha plans to commemorate the day by sparking uncomfortable but progressive conversations surrounding the wellness of men.
The day, celebrated on November 19 recognises and celebrates the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of men, drawing attention the value they add to our communities and the world at large.
“No one ever does something for men around this day so we decided to do something significant this year that men can remember and be a part of just like women's day.” TT told TshisaLIVE.
While he's previously hosted an Amatyma suit-up premium experience, the real estate entrepreneur and community driver wants to reiterate the focus on the financial, physical and mental wellness of men.
“We need to talk about the importance of looking good and eating right. If you can't look after yourself, how do you expect to look after your kids as a father? We also want to make sure that conversations around mental wellness are discussed, as uncomfortable as they are.
“Men need to know what causes depression and what it is. Also, men and finances with their egos are a big thing. Having those uncomfortable conversations and hopefully through sharing and hearing other peoples stories we can have resolutions to those issues.”
With there being many bad notions surrounding men, TT believes it will take men to change the narrative and wants to help them become better men.
“The whole concept that men are trash is a harsh reality that we all have to own. Gone are the days where you can exclude yourself from it. We all have to own it and do something about it ... we need to talk about these things and be in tune with our emotions as men and kill myths that men don't cry.”
