‘He multiplied’ — Five times Riky Rick’s memory was commemorated

Rapper Rikhado Makhado, popularly known as Riky Rick, died on February 23 and since then his family, friends and fans have moved in unison in keeping his memory and legacy alive. 

Here are the top five moments Riky's life was celebrated. 

His mother sets up a memorial at Mount Everest base camp

Riky Rick's mother Louisa Zondo trekked to Mount Everest base camp to pay tribute to her late son.

Louisa embarked on her journey to the base camp, situated 5,364m above sea level, on March 23 to commemorate her son and she lay memorabilia. 

A “Riky Rick - We Multiply” T-shirt, a chain containing a medallion of St Michael as a symbolic representation of his wife Bianca and the children's prayers, a St Christopher medallion representing her travel prayers, and a medallion with a “MaRiky” engraving were among the pieces.

Bianca inks his face

Bianca Naidoo inked her arm with her late forever love partner's face three months after he died.  

The artist behind the ink, Bryan Graham Du Rand, took to Instagram and shared it was an honour to do the tattoo.

Maxhosa Alkebulan range

The musician and fashion maverick,  aka "King Kotini", was honoured by Laduma Ngxokolo's Maxhosa in his show for the Autumn/Winter collection titled  “Alkebulan” which was held on Youth Day at its studio in the Johannesburg CBD.

Bianca told TshisaLIVE she loved the collection because it encapsulated who Riky Rick was.

“The collection was a great representation of Riky. He was bold and edgy and wasn’t afraid to take risks fashion-wise. I know he would have loved every piece and would certainly have added these to his personal collection."

Friends, family reopen his barbershop

The Legend Barbershop group’s Waterfall Corner branch relaunched their store in honour of Riky Rick’s birthday.

The late rapper, who was a franchise owner of the store, would have turned 35

Bianca told TshisaLIVE she was grateful to celebrate her husband’s life in this manner.

“This means a lot to our family because the barbershop was one of Riky’s proudest achievements. Reopening on his birthday made it more special because it was our way of honouring him,” she said.

“It was important for us because Riky was always about giving back. It is a way of us carrying forward his memory.”

Puma and Cotton Fest collaborate on dropping Riky's final collection

Puma and the Cotton Fest team collaborated to commemorate rapper Riky Rick when they released their last collection the rapper was working on.

In a statement shared with TshisaLIVE, they announced the launch of the new Puma X Cotton Fest FC collection.

“We are very privileged to be able to bring what turned out to be Riky’s final collection to the market. As with everything Riky did, he was hands on with this collection and it's Cotton Fest FC aesthetic,” said Hayden Manuel, Puma SA sportstyle marketing manager.
