Mampintsha's mother Zamanguni Gumede set to be laid to rest on Saturday

Family and close friends will gather in L Hall KwaMashu, Durban, on Saturday to bid a final farewell to Mampintsha's mother Zamanguni Gumede.

Gumede died on the evening of January 15 after being hospitalised having suffered a minor stroke just weeks after her son, Big Nuz musician Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo, had died, also after suffering a stroke.

Her funeral service will take place at L Hall KwaMashu and she will be laid to rest at Redhill cemetery on Saturday.

There have been reports claiming that Mampintsha’s widow, gqom sensation Babes Wodumo, will not be permitted to attend the funeral.

Wodumo’s sister and manager, Nondumiso Simelane, was evasive when asked for comment on the matter, referring all queries to the Gumede family.

Attempts by TshisaLIVE to get comment from Mampintsha’s sister, Pinky Gumede, were unsuccessful at the time of publishing. An update will be included once received.

Last week Pinky said her mother was not coping with Mampintsha’s death.

“She is not taking Mandla’s death well. She started feeling ill before him but got worse when he was admitted to hospital,” she said.

She said Gumede needed private medical care and psychological assistance to deal with losing Mampintsha, but they were hopeful about her recovery. 

“The doctor says her liver has been affected and she had a stroke. But her stroke is not bad. She will not be disabled if she takes her medication. She has not been able to eat properly and that is affecting how she takes her medication.”
