Thabo Mabogwane, popularly known as Thabo Smol, from Black Motion has paid tribute to  Itumeleng “Vusi Ma R5" Mosoeu.

A statement shared with TshisaLIVE revealed Vusi Ma R5 died early on Monday.

As tributes pour in on social media, Thabo took to his timeline to remember the late Bacardi star, recalling having witnessed him perform recently. 

“Ahhh Ma R5. Just now now bro we were watching you perform. Robala (rest) king. They robbed you because you are a threat. Rest well Brayarena (our brother),” he wrote.

DJ Mahoota also took to his timeline to share a video of the late star with the caption  "#WhatsGoingOnHere #Why #SuchGreatTalent #ripvusimar5 #Goneway2Soon #WhenIsThisGonnaStop."  

Vusi Ma R5's death is under investigation. 

After the news of his death broke, police spokesperson Col Dimakatso Sello issued a statement confirming police in Akasia are investigating a case of murder after the death of the well-known DJ in Tshwane.

“On January 30 2023 at about 1am, police were called to a shooting incident. A 34-year-old man was with ag unshot wound. According to reports, the victim was sitting his friends outside a tavern at ext13 in Soshanguve when he went across the road to the car.

“The others allegedly heard gunshots and when they went to investigate they found the victim lying on the ground. No suspects have been arrested.”

The police request anyone who may have information about the incident to contact their nearest police station or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

The Mosoeu family have asked for “privacy and respect” during their time of grieving and said they will release a statement in due course.

Details of the funeral and memorial service are yet to be confirmed.
