Skeem Saam actress Pearl Nikolić, née Maimela, has added Mrs South Africa semifinalist to her resume as she begins her journey to possibly being crowned this year's winner.

As a young, shy girl she never imagined entering a pageant competition, but after receiving an unavoidable pull through the promotion posts on social media, Pearl said it was a call she had to take.

“This can only be the work of God in His fullness. It's almost as if something was pulling me to do it. I concluded this has to be God,” she told TshisaLIVE.

In August 2021, Pearl ventured into ministry as a pastor and she hopes by entering the competition she will be able to reach more people.

“I felt it was the perfect platform for me to exercise my duties as a child of God. I help the communities through my non-profitable organisation and think it will help stretch myself to other communities I may not have been able to reach.

“I am a true believer that while there are a lot of people in the forefront with their ancestral beliefs, I feel like this is also God's mission to send his message across as his representatives.”

Being a part of Mrs SA has felt like she is in the school of life as she feels more empowered and is climbing the ladder of self-discovery.

“I've discovered so much about myself, I've come out of my shell. This is not something I would have ever considered. It's new to me. I want to be a reflection and a voice for other women. It can motivate other women to step out of their shell.”

Though she might now have a lot on her plate, Pearl said she feels confident to put her best foot forward as she has her husband's full support.

“He was really happy when I told him. He said I would win and that he's supporting me to the end.

“I am a virtuous woman. It's not that I have to be one thing, be an actress, mom, businesswoman, wife or anything else. I am definitely going to do other things, including acting and my pastoral responsibilities. We don't have to limit ourselves. When you break through that glass ceiling you get to know you can do all things.”

The wife of Mafikizolo's Theo Kgosinkwe, Vourne, took to her timeline recently to reveal she is a semifinalist in the competition.

“You are looking at one of the semi-finalists in Mrs South Africa 2023. It’s going to be an amazing journey ahead,” she wrote.

In the comments, Theo showed her support.

“You already my Queen, and you’ve already won my heart.”
