“Eish guys, they dumped me” was all it took for social media to shake this week, with some of South Africa's biggest companies getting in on the joke.

It started when fast food outlet McDonald's South Africa posted the message on its Twitter account.

While some users suspected McD's had been hacked, admin reassured them, saying “This is definitely the right account”. It added a message to “single besties” to tag their friends because they had something up their sleeve.

McDonald's received several comfort messages from car brands to banks, insurance companies and even their fast food rivals.

Discovery Insurance tweeted: “Dumped in the month of love, Mara. I can buy myself floweeers! Come get some love and rewards over here, friend!”

Ford South Africa offered McDonald's a ride to clear their heads.

Insurance company, Liberty, told McDonald's they have taught themselves to insure their hearts because dating is hard.

Rival fast food company Nandos asked for McDonald's’ location, “Hey, uphi”.
