Bongani "Gusheshe" Mahlangu has made history on Ikwekwezi FM as the first male to host a daytime slot on the station in 40 years.

The radio personality is taking over from women such as Skhosana, Bussai Mathebula, Jaydee and Sonto Mahlangu, who have been in the 9-12 slot for decades.

"I wasn’t expecting it," he told TshisaLIVE, adding that in rebranding the show, it would be named Emthonjeni.

While he's introduced a "Majita Monday" segment to talk about men's issues, Gusheshe says the show aims to caters to all demographics.

“We’re doing something different. We needed to cater to our listeners. We don’t want it to be a female show or a male show, we want it to be a show anyone can listen to, any gender, young and old,

"I had to make sure that we repackage the show, rename the show, change the music and restructure the show, not having features that only cater to a specific gender. We are nonconforming people, we are taking risks and pushing boundaries."

Since audition for and joining Ikwekwezi FM in 2013 to pursue his passion for radio, Gusheshe has hosted the Afternoon Drive and graveyard shift. Now he's moved back to a daytime slot, he feels he's reintroducing himself to listeners.

"This show has allowed me to rebrand myself. A few projects that were in the pipeline will now be released. This allows me to tap into other interests within the entertainment and communication space, something I wasn't able to do in the past three years ... the Gusheshe brand will be a force in the entertainment."
