Here are the winners of the Savanna Comics' Choice Comedy Awards 2023

The 10th edition of the Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards saw some of Mzansi's favourites put their best foot forward at The Galleria in Sandton to honour this year's winners on Saturday. 

Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp, Pabi Moloi, Nina Hastie, Candice Modiselle, Donald, Mbali Nkosi, Sandile Mahlango, Rob Forbes, Rozanne McKenzie, Chris Forrest and Kim Jayde were among the celebrities spotted at the event. 

After a three-year hiatus of the awards, the ceremony came back with a bang in partnership with Savanna Premium Cider, LIFT, Mrs Ball’s, Me (DStv channel 115) and One-eyed Jack.

The winners at this year's ceremony got to grace the stage giving five minutes of stand-up, in place of an acceptance speech, when receiving the refreshed and modernised awards trophy, lovingly called Waldo.

“The awards exist to celebrate comedians and comedic content creators,” said Manuela Dias de Deus, the awards’ producer, in a statement shared with TshisaLIVE. 

“It’s about giving back to the industry and really using the awards as a platform to promote and support comedy in all its forms.”

Here's the full lists of winners:

• Breakthrough Act of the Year Award: Nonto R; 
• Savanna Newcomer Award: Wazi M Kunene;
• Hall of Fame Award: Alan Committie;
• Best Comedy Festival or Show Award: Johannesburg International Comedy Festival;
• Sauce of the Year Award, Presented by Mrs Ball’s: Dillan Oliphant;
• Funny Influencer Content Award: Robby Collins — for the campaign Pothole FM by Joe Public & Dunlop;
• Funny is Funny Award: King Price — for the campaign #TestTickles by Freckle;
• Uplifting Comedic Content Award, Presented by LIFT: Rory Petzer;
• Best Solo Show Award: Kagiso KG Mokgadi;
• The Joe Mafela Award: Nonto R; and
• Comedian of the Year Award: Robby Collins.

The 60-minute Savanna Newcomer Showcase special will air on Me (DStv channel 115) on Saturday, May 6 at 7pm, and The Savanna Comics' Choice Comedy Awards special will air on Saturday, May 13 at 7pm.
