'It's a spiritual decision' — here's why DJ Sbu won't be shaving his beard or hair soon

DJ Sbu has opened up about why he doesn't shave his beard.

In a clip circulated on Twitter, the veteran radio and TV presenter  said the decision was brought on by his spiritual journey. 

He has been explaining his look for a while since trolls have been having a go at him. 

“It's a spiritual journey and decision. A decision that's inspired by the spiritual journey that I have been going through. I probably will at some point, but I'm not ready to now. I think I feel really comfortable with the way I look. I think I really look great and I think I'm in my natural habitat when I look like this, when I don't shave my hair and my beard,” he said.

He first cleared the air in August 2022 when curiosity from tweeps got a bit much. He took to his Instagram timeline, reacting to the comments.

“They say my beard is trending again. Guys, what's wrong with my beard and my hair? Do you guys love me any less? Apparently people are saying I don't bath. Guys, come on, please leave me alone. There are more serious things to discuss in this country. Leave my beard and hair alone.”

Speaking to TshisaLIVE previously, DJ Sbu said he was on a journey to learn about the history of Africa. 

“When they say what you look like on the outside is a reflection of what is happening on the inside, I'm also going through that journey. I'm learning a lot about myself, African history and people who preached black consciousness. A lot of black consciousness Africans embraced their hair. It's evolution, growth and becoming wise and smarter.”
