Rasta has honoured Lucas Radebe with a portrait for his 54th birthday.

The soccer legend celebrated his birthday at Sakhumzi in Soweto on Sunday with Jeff Radebe, Tim Modise and his son, comedian Primo Baloyi, among the guests at the Mandela-themed party.

“There is a moon that is Mandela on the background of the painting to link with the theme and, as he said, he mentored him,” Rasta said, explaining the painting.

“I painted it as a moon trying to show how he came as a moon to shine in his darkness as he played overseas and led Leeds United to many victories. So he is very special to me. I am honoured to be invited to the event and give him a painting while he is still alive and kicking. He laughed with me and was all smiles. I was so excited too,” Rasta told TshisaLIVE.

Recalling his first encounter with Lucas, Rasta said he encouraged him to keep up the work he's been doing as he was a legend in his own right.

“It was my first time meeting him and shaking his hand, as I normally saw him at a distance on and off the field. I looked up to him so it was a fright for me to see him. He is so bubbly you can see it from a distance that he's a good man with a good heart, tall and has the soul of Madiba.”
