Sports drink Prime is flying off the shelves and DJ Sbu is not impressed.
In a clip he shared on his YouTube channel, Sbu said after the product gained traction in the country someone had asked him to do “Prime Energy vs Mofaya Energy' | Foreign vs Local” analysis.
DJ Sbu launched his energy drink Mofaya in 2014.
“It’s nothing special. It’s not like it’s a drink you’ll drink that will drive your car or give you the Lotto numbers. It's not gonna make you good at what you do,” he said.
He urged people to support local products.
“Be careful of being duped or enticed about all these European, American and foreign brands and products when you have better here at home. You could be so excited about wearing other brands when you've got better here at home.
“Let’s not be too easily excited about things coming from overseas that are too expensive with no value to add into our lives”.

The drink was retailing at about R800 a few weeks ago, but retailer Checkers is now selling the drink at R40.
Bronwyn Williams, partner at Flux Trends, told TimesLIVE Prime would remain popular despite the price drop.
“Will the demand still be there? Likely yes, especially in the short run, while the brand is still on people's minds, though the demand will move 'downstream' to less wealthy and less high status early adopters and celebrities as it becomes mainstream.
“High status social accounts and celebrities will likely lose interest fastest,” she said.
