Close friends and family members visited the grave of slain rapper Kiernan "AKA' Forbes as part of their celebrations of his big wins at the Metro FM Music Awards in Mbombela Stadium, Mpumalanga on Saturday.
AKA, who was shot dead outside a restaurant in Durban on February 10, won Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Hip Hop Artist and Best Male Artist.
AKA’s father Tony Forbes, mother Lynn, daughter Kairo, business partner Raphael Benza, friend Simphiwe “Sim Dope” Gumede and other close friends shared images from his grave at Westpark Cemetery in Johannesburg, where they covered it with the SA flag and decked it with his four awards.
“Congratulations my boy. You lived your dream. I am so proud of you. Thank you, everyone who voted, thank you so much. Thank you for all the love. I love you,” Tony captioned his post on Instagram.
The family and friends later visited AKA's girlfriend, rapper Nadia Nakai, to share memories about AKA and celebrate his win.
Nadia, who chose not to attend the awards to allow the family and the Megacy to share the spotlight, spoke of how she had the support of the Forbes family and his friends.
“I appreciate you guys so much because you made me feel not alone during this process. He's left me but I have gained a family,” Nadia said.
