‘Somizi is the god of the entertainment industry’ — DJ Sbu on the longevity of SomG’s career

DJ Sbu has commended Somizi Mhlongo for maintaining relevance in the entertainment industry for decades.

In a recent YouTube video, Sbu, real name Sbusiso Leope, spoke of the hardships the media personality has gone through in his career and how he managed to consistently reinvent himself.

Sbu spoke of Somizi's tenacity, relentlessness and strength.

"I don't think a lot of 2000s understand the difficult years Somizi has had to go through. He grew up in this industry, he comes from the days of Sarafina!. Somizi's mother is legendary. Somizi's father is legendary,

"Somizi is royalty when it comes to South African entertainment, whether you are talking presenting, television, performing, reality shows. Somizi has done it all. There isn't anything Somizi has not done in this industry. Somizi is the god of the South African entertainment industry, and he's not going anywhere."

Somizi has been candid about the obstacles he's faced throughout his career as a child star to being a veteran in the entertainment space.

He documented his journey in his book Dominoes: Unbreakable Spirit, recalling being broke nd some of his blunders making headlines. 

He was asked to step back from the Metro FM mic after meeting with his Metro FM bosses in August 2021. This as he was dealing with abuse allegations from his estranged husband Mohale Motaung at the time.

However, he's since made a comeback on radio on Metro FM's 9am to 12pm The Bridge alongside Quinton “Naked DJ” Masina and Khutso Theledi.

The media personality also hosts the The Weekend Breakfast Sounds Good with Mat Elle between 6am and 9am.
