American rapper Kanye West has been criticised for serving sushi on a naked woman at a birthday celebration his daughter was also attending.

Kanye celebrated his birthday on Saturday and included the presentation of the Japanese practice called nyotaimori.

Videos and photos shared on social media showed a woman lying on the serving table wearing only a bikini bottom, her breasts covered with what looks like a leaf with food on top of it. The food was also placed on her stomach and waist.

Kanye's daughter North could be seen standing at the table before grabbing a piece of sushi on a plate.

The rapper was criticised on social media, with some saying the party was not child-friendly. Others said serving food on top of a naked woman’s body was ill treatment of women and “misogynistic”.

South Africans said Kanye was copying the “sushi king”-turned-politician Kenny Kunene. 

Kunene got tongues wagging years ago when he was captured eating sushi off the bodies of naked women. These days he spends most of his time speaking about potholes since he became Johannesburg’s transport MMC this year.
