Actor Linda Majola is set to hold his first ever one-man comedy special.

The show This & That with a side of Jazz will be held at the Seabrooke Theatre at Durban High School on June 30.

Though he is not a comedian, the skits he shared on his social media accounts have been a hit with his followers. This inspired him to organise a fully-fledged self-funded show.

" I started creating content on TikTok and Instagram. I've always loved telling stories and also just making people laugh.

“The experiences I have had in life being queer, navigating dating as queer, navigating being a grandson and a son, and also the entertainment industry and just being a human in general, I think through all these experiences I have been able to make people laugh and now I want to put a show together that kind of embodies that.

“Also it is just a bit different and has a different flair, so that's why it has a bit of jazz,” he told TshisaLIVE.

He said he found musicians from different places and put them together. He hopes in future to get brand sponsorship to take his show nationwide.

“I got a band together of highly-skilled jazz musicians I want to give a platform to, and also to partner up with them to give a better experience in terms of comedy. I think  the way we are consuming content its quite different. We know how comedians are doing it and they are killing it. People want something short, they want something quick, they want something that has a twist of dancing and singing, they want versatility in performances.

“They don't just want me to stand with a mic and a bottle of water on the side and tell a joke. I also appreciate and value people who do that, but I wanted to give people a bit of a theatre experience as well.”

The show will touch on Linda navigating his life as a queer man and socioeconomic issues faced by young individuals.

“It's an umbrella of experiences I want to speak about. There's also a lot of music that will be centred around that, struggle songs, songs about celebrating blackness, my sexuality as accepting and loving as the way that it is.

“Also songs that speak about community, jokes and humour that are about community that is above being black and Zulu growing up in the township.”

After his acting debut on Showmax's telenovela The Wife, Linda has found a new home on SABC 1's popular week night drama series Uzalo

He made his debut on June 13 as the character Mzamo Shezi.

“Joining the cast of Uzalo has been incredible because Uzalo has rocket launched so many careers. A lot of big names in the industry started off on Uzalo or had their big break on Uzalo.

“This for me is like walking in their foot steps. I appreciate the people, the crew and cast of Uzalo. They are people who mentor you, who show you the way. I'm eternally grateful to have the opportunity.”
