After experiencing a few boo-boos last year, the DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival has made enhancements as it makes a return this year.
The two-day festival, famous for its culinary excellence, captivating performances and unforgettable musical experiences, received a backlash on social media last year with many attendees airing their grievances about their experiences, citing the long queues for the lavatories and food stalls, and parking, to have been nightmares.
The organisers said as they mark a 10-year milestone, their aim for the event set to take place on September 23 and 24 at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in Johannesburg is to make the consumer experience more pleasant than ever.
“The consumer’s experience is our priority. It’s very important to us that they enjoy themselves in true Delicious style. Changes were made due to the fact that we wanted the fans and festivalgoers to have a relaxed and enjoyable experience, catching all the live acts from both stages and manoeuvring in between with ease, setting up their picnic blankets with a clear view of the stages as well as browsing through our selection of food offerings and getting a real taste of the cuisines. This makes everyone feel like they’re a VIP,” media and marketing co-ordinator Nokuthula Monaheng told TshisaLIVE.
“Given this time of the year is hot, this will allow for a more fun day or weekend out with friends and family. Less queues, more freedom to roam and enjoying the music and food offerings”.
In comparison to last year's festival, the event organisers reduced the capacity. However they said they were not at liberty to disclose the level of detail at the time of publishing this article but introduced a preregistration eligible for discounted tickets from June 2022 before the artists announcement.
As they promise to make this year's event one for the books, they have made a few changes.
Here are the changes:
- The festival has a new ticketing partner, Ticketmaster, and patrons will have to present their tickets via the Ticketmaster app to gain entry to the festival to reduce the risk of ticket fraud.
- Festivalgoers will be able to pre-purchase parking tickets or make use of a ride-hailing service from a dedicated separate drop-off and pickup zone to avoid traffic congestion at the venue.
- There will be more bar frontage and more food vendors.
- The festival has done away with the prepaid cashless system and all vendors will accept bank cards, further adding to convenience at this year’s event.
