Seven years ago, Jamali announced they were pursuing their solo careers. However, they stayed in touch and are set to hit the stage together again to commemorate their 20th anniversary by performing 20 shows.

Kicking off the first leg of the celebration, Mariechan Luiters, Jacqui Carpede and Liesl Penniken will be performing at JD Thomas Hall in Eden Park, Johannesburg, on Friday.

“We will be doing a few shows locally, so our fans will get to see us perform,” Mariechan told TshisaLIVE.

From Love Me For Me to Dalile, Jamali dominated music charts for years, and even though they might not be releasing new music, they feel there are some songs they never got to push as much as they could.

“We aim to do 20 shows. Let’s make it happen! E-mail musicmindproductions1@gmail.com to book us. You snooze, you lose.”

Speaking of how she wants their legacy to be remembered, Mariechan said their journey was one that many aspiring artists can learn from and emulate.

“Our legacy should be that we were one of one. Our music will remain nostalgic, and that we empowered other young artists through our grind and perseverance. We’ve been on big stages and small stages, we’ve performed for thousands and small crowds, we’ve travelled to countries we never imagined at the time, and we performed for Madiba at Oprah Winfrey’s New Year’s Eve party.

“I think we’ve come full circle with a lot we wanted to achieve, but our biggest accomplishment was maintaining a sisterhood throughout, and people knowing our name, knowing who we are, without fail. It’s a great accomplishment that never gets old.

“The younger artists still look to us for guidance and our fans to this day will never tire of us. It’s inspiring.”
