Siyabonga Shibe, Ayanda Borotho and Zodumo Shange are to star in Mzansi Wethu’s first original telenovela, Sibongile & The Dlaminis.
The show, produced by Rhythm World Productions, the same team behind shows such as Komkhulu and Umkhokha, is to premiere on July 31 at 6pm.
In a statement shared with TshisaLIVE, the telenovela is explained as a show that follows the extraordinary journey of Sibongile Mbambo (Luyanda Zwane), an innocent rural young woman forced to leave her family and dreams to become a domestic worker in the lavish mansion of the affluent Dlamini family.
“As the first original telenovela on our channel, the airing of Sibongile & The Dlaminis will mark a significant milestone in our commitment to deliver diverse and compelling local content,” said Shirley Adonisi, director of local entertainment channels at M-Net.
“Rhythm World Productions has again demonstrated its exceptional storytelling prowess and their collaboration on this project has been remarkable. We are confident that combining their creative genius and our dedicated viewership will make Sibongile & The Dlaminis an unforgettable television experience.”
Siyabonga and Ayanda reunite after they starred in Mzani Magic's Shaka iLembe.
Ayanda stars as Mduna and Siyabonga plays Mgabhi.
Nomzamo, who plays Queen Nandi, said her character tells a story of women in Zulu history that not many know about.
“I want to use my voice [to] stand for something greater than myself. I also want to change the discourse of who we are as young women and the patriarchy we've had to push through. So it's interesting how this full circle moment is. It's something I already live and I am able to do now through my art form. I will always be grateful to be chosen to play Nandi,” she told TshisaLIVE.
