We were treated to a front-row glimpse of what to expect at the 2023 Standard Bank Joy of Jazz on Wednesday evening.

Imagine musicians like Buhlebendalo, Langa Mavuso, Zoe Modiga, McCoy Mrubata and Billy Monama under one roof. Attendees at the line-up announcement were treated to a teaser preview jam session.

The premier jazz event, now in its 24th year, will be hosted at the Sandton Convention Centre on September 29 and 30.

The festival has over the years created a rich legacy that has become a second home for those who love and breathe jazz.

Festival CEO and producer Mantwa Chinoamadi expressed her gratitude, thanking the stakeholders that made the festival possible and said the world is welcome to witness and be part of the exciting and memorable experience.

“I would like to first acknowledge our partner, Standard Bank, who has been with us for more than 20 years on this journey. We appreciate you and we are really honoured to have a corporate institution that dedicates its all to the art of jazz.

“Our partners Arena Holdings and MNS Attorneys always make sure that we stay on cue.

“Proudly South African, who came up last year and asked what is it that they can do because it's a proudly South African event and SAMPRA is one of the institutions in the music industry that said 'we want to be part of this train' — thank you.

“We thank the department of sports, arts and culture and, of course, the Tourism Authority of the Gauteng provincial government, who say this is where real jazz starts.”

Gauteng premier Panyaza Lesufi gave the official endorsement to the event, announcing a three-year partnership and punting the phrase: “If there is jazz outside Gauteng just note it, but if there is jazz in Gauteng, please attend it.”

He continued: “My task is to create excitement and opportunities in Gauteng. By investing in this kind of event we are creating more opportunities for those who need them.”

“I want to confirm T-Musicman for three full years will be a partner. We've added our investment because we love the product, and we really believe it's a product that needs to be supported.”
