Speaking to TshisaLIVE previously, he said the journey was not easy because he was part of an industry where alcohol flowed freely at every event.
“Sobriety is going well. Every day I'm tempted to drink. It is such a beautiful journey to be able to make such a conscious decision whether you want to drink or not. So with this sabbatical, essentially. I'm not saying I'm quitting alcohol because I'm an alcoholic — no, I want to have the control and the choice to say I want to drink or I don't want to drink.
“When I'm drinking, what is the purpose of drinking? Are we celebrating? I don't want to just drink alcohol nje. I want to be able to be in the moment and say we are all cheers-ing, have a drink and be responsible,” he said.
'That thing is the devil' — Emtee on being sober for 10 years
Rapper Emtee has referred to alcohol as “the devil”, revealing he quit drinking 10 years ago.
Taking to X he patted himself on the back for the achievement.
“Manne I’m proud of myself. 10 years sober from alcohol. That thing is the devil. Stoners be down to earth like a mf,” he wrote.
In 2022 he opened up about why he quit “lean”.
In an interview with rapper Da L.E.S on Posted Podcast Emtee got candid about family, music and drug use.
Da L.E.S asked him if he felt “lean” was a life experience.
“For sure,” responded Emtee.
The rapper said he got into drugs because he was trying to get involved and be accepted in showbiz.
