The Mandoza biopic sent publicist Lerato Sengadi down memory lane.
She took to her Instagram timeline sharing she worked on the series.
The six-part story that delves into the life of the kwaito music legend debuted on BET Africa on August 16.
“I can’t begin to explain how much this project and being part of it means to me. If you know me you know what Kwaito means to me ... what telling our stories with integrity means to me ... what protecting legacies means to me ...@mphotshabalala3 & I met before either of us knew we’d be working on this together. We became inseparable. We are literally twins ... we’ve cried and comforted each other a lot but we laugh and act crazy a sh*t load too.”
Speaking about her sisterhood with Mandoza's wife Mpho, Lerato said they were thick as thieves.
“We are spirit animals & sisters. Kortez (that’s what I call her because she’s a pint size firecracker), I love you so much. I’m so proud of you. Mduduzi is insanely proud of you. We, as a country, thank you for giving us a glimpse into your life. May Nkalakatha forever reign supreme as the soundtrack of the country 🇿🇦 (hand in hand with Sista Bethina) Mandoza, you are an icon, legend, ghetto hero, trailblazer ... I will forever be a fan,” she wrote.
Previously speaking to TshisaLIVE, Wiseman Mncube who stars as Mandoza, shared what it took for him to step into the shoes of the kwaito star.
“I don't like to say I play the character of Mandoza because I feel I'm disrespecting him. I had to live his life. I'm humbled and grateful to be given the opportunity and to be trusted with such a big role.
“I'm a spiritual person and what I found about Mandoza when I was doing my research, he used to pray a lot. I allowed everything to flow because I could feel his spirit every time we were shooting. I could feel something coming in. It did a lot for me to connect with him.”
