Jeffrey Daniel says the dancing and music that many see and love about soul funk group Shalamar has always been there.
The trio is celebrating their 40-year anniversary.
"Our dance performance is really what made us stand out, and that's why I think we are the last man standing on this performance level of the 1970s and 1980s," he said.
The trio — Jeffrey, Howard Hewitt and Carolyn Griffey — are billed to perform at the DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival on September 24 at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in Johannesburg.
Asked what has sustained their group, Daniel said love.

"I would have to say maturity, tolerance and patience. It is like a marriage. A marriage is a never ending process of trying to make it work, trying to comprise and see what fits and doesn't fit. There's no such a thing as the perfect get-along. You have to be ready to weather the storm, ready to compromise when it is time to, know when to give in and how to get along. There's love there."
Amapiano and other things made Jeffrey want to put his dancing shoes and head to Mzansi for collaborations.
"I love Mafikizolo. I love their song Khona, I like Focalistic and the guy who did Jerusalema, Nigeria has always been the musical giant of Africa but the South African bassline took over. It even influenced the Nigerian music scene into using that South African bassline. I want to give big props to the South African music scene. I would love to come there and collaborate with some dance studios."
