Her feet are firmly on the ground and over the years she has shared her talent with the world. Now Afro-fusion songstress Siphokazi Mohapi is ready to serenade her fans with her show.

The Timeless Music Encounter with Siphokazi is billed for the State Theatre on November 11. True to its name, Siphokazi told TshisaLIVE she believes she makes timeless music.

What inspired the Timeless Music Encounter concert ?

When I sat back and looked at the music I have recorded since 2006 and 2007, it is still listenable and people can still jam to my songs. A perfect example is Amacala. It is a song you can still play today and people will dance and relate to it. I think all my songs are very timeless. It is timeless music so I thought why not theme every concert I do and call it The Timeless Music Encounter because I believe the music I have done is timeless.

Will concertgoers see you feature other artists on stage?

I'm featuring other artists that evening. One has been featuring me. I worked with him years ago. He used to be my guitarist and now he has his own projects. We've been doing the music of the people who paved the way for us  and it is deliberate that I feature that artist on the night because since my music is timeless we will also be going back to music we believe in. I will also be featuring other guys who are not well known names as musicians but they are very good artists. I have a five piece band and I will also feature a saxophone player and a violinist on a song or two.

What type of music will you perform on the night? Will we hear Siphokazi's signature sound that launched her singing career?

My audience will hear the signature sound that launched Siphokazi in the music industry but as someone who has evolved, someone who is a mother and a wife today, someone who has grown and recorded new music. I will be including my other albums and they are different from the first album I released. I will be doing other songs as well but the signature sound will definitely be there.

What's informing how you curate the music experience?

The songs I'm choosing have a significance to my journey in the music industry.  Me and my music director are  making sure we collect all the music I have recorded. We are not ignorant to the songs my audiences like. I'm even waiting for my fans to send me songs they would like to hear. Because we only have one night, I won't sing all the songs, but we are putting songs together that tell a story. Siphokazi believes in love, children, she is an advocate through her music for women and children so we will do a story of some sort.
