Speaking to TshisaLIVE ahead of his performance on Saturday night the pianist and composer said he was honoured to share his music with the audience.

“This festival holds many things together, it's a cultural space that is significantly aligned to heritage and also inzalo yelanga which was on the 23rd. It is important because it's the beginning of the African calendar, so I think it's more than just the music. It's about what kind of vibration this gathering of people kind of helps us with towards this collective memories. We've forgotten many things. There are not so many of these festivals that allow the space to remember, the space of gentleness and to taste the sound.

“Most of these festivals, and it's not a criticism, are loud and there is something that happens, idlozi liya baleka, alizwane nomsindo , so abadala really like to find a space to voice bayathanda ukuthula so sisebenzela ukuthula and the festival of course aligns with that vision. They've been having me for many years and I think I specialise in this space of silence.”
