Just recently Uncle Waffles and Inkabi Zezwe announced they submitted their music to be considered for the 66th annual Grammy Awards.

The duo of Sjava and Big Zulu submitted their album for consideration in three categories: Best Global Music Album, Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical and Best Immersive Audio Album.

Their hit song Umbayimbayi was submitted for nomination for Best African Music Performance and Best Global Music Performance.

Uncle Waffles is in the running for two nominations — Best Global Music Album and Yahyuppiyah is being considered for Best African Music Performance.

How does it work?

First step

Members and record companies submit entries which are screened for eligibility and category placement.

The academy's voting members, all involved in the creative and technical processes of recording, participate in screening nominations which determines the five finalists in each category and the voting which determines the winners.

Voting

After nominations have been determined and announced, academy members vote in up to 10 categories in up to three fields in the genre plus the four categories of the general field to determine the winners. To ensure quality of voting, members are directed to vote only in those fields in which they are peers of the nominees.
