From the background to the forefront — Airburn Sounds plans to take over airwaves

He has kept a humble and modest career in the background producing strictly hits for major artists such as Master KG, Nomcebo Zikode, DJ Tira, Makhadzi, Temwah, Zanda Zakuza, Mr Brown, Boity, Rethabile Khumalo, Nokwazi and many more.
His latest body of work, set to be released in 2024, includes the likes of Cameroonian-US star Akon. Now DJ and producer Airburn sounds, real name Thabo Mahundla, is counting down the days to the release of his single Jabula with Nvcely Sings, Sage, Miona and featuring 015MusiQ, and Van City MusiQ.
The song Jabula is an ode to all three artist families who have patiently watched their rise and success. “It’s also a tribute to those who have been working patiently and hard and really waiting for their breakthrough,” Airburn Sounds told TshisaLIVE.
“It says those close to you; friends, family and parents will rejoice to see your dedication pay off. It hasn’t been an easy journey for people, but it’s a motivation for them to carry on and never give up as they will reap the rewards.”
Like him, having patiently hustled and worked in the back seat, he is not ready to take up his space in the music industry.
“I have worked with many great names and it was just a matter of time that I shine, and now is the time."
His versatility and non-conformist nature have seen him work with artists from various genres including gqom, kwaito, jazz, Maskandi, traditional Tsonga music, hip-hop and dance.
Born in Limpopo, AirBurn Sounds started providing at 15 years old and made a name for himself after winning the Red Squad DJ Competition in 2013.
He produced songs that topped charts across radio stations. He has travelled Europe and the African continent DJing and working as an engineer.
His single titled Thando Uzongibulala featuring Makhadzi saw him make waves. He has shared stages with artists DJ Mpahorisa, Burna Boy, Sjava, Buffalo Soulja and many more.
“I have been able to work with different artists because I am not limited to genre. I am an artist, a creative and genre is just a box."
