The death of Bulelwa “Zahara” Mkutukana has sent shock waves through social media.

Sources close to the award-winning singer confirmed the news of her passing on Tuesday morning, saying she was “unresponsive since Thursday” and they expected her unfortunate fate.

Scores on X paid tribute to the 43-year-old.

While Mzansi mourns her death, DJ Black Coffee, Aaron Moloisi, Prince Kaybee and sport, arts and culture minister Zizi Kodwa were among the celebrities who reacted to the news.

“I am very saddened by the passing of Zahara. My deepest condolences to the Mkutukana family and the South African music industry. Government has been with the family for some time. Zahara and her guitar made an incredible and lasting impact in South African music,” the minister wrote.

“What a sad moment. Thank you for pouring your heart out through music sister. May your beautiful soul rest easy. You touched many including me with your undeniable talent,” Prince Kaybee wrote.

“Zahara did a lot for the music industry in South Africa. She paved the way for so many others with her iconic presence and guitar in hand. She will be missed. I never knew her personally but her music was loud and brave #ripzahara. Praying for her family. She was loved,” Lady Zamar wrote.
