Matshediso “Tshedi” Mholo  reflected on her music career under the Malaika banner, revealing the musical group had a conflict and intense rivalry with Mafikizolo.

Malaika consisted of herself, Bongani Nchang and the late Jabulani Ndaba, while Mafikizolo included Nhlanhla Mafu, Theo Kgosinkwe and the late Tebogo Madingoane.

During her recent sit down on the Happy Dayz Podcast, Tshedi revealed how intense their rivalry would get.

“It was bad and the media, fans and people who were close to both groups would push it. Promoters were also causing a rift between us. With us, it was worse. Lately I heard from somebody who used to work with them, saying they were not supposed to greet us and I asked myself if it was that deep. I think both groups were so powerful that we were fearing who would get more applause. It was a nice competition. The industry was vibrating, and it encouraged us to work harder in the studio.”

Tshedi has been working hard to reinvent herself after her years with Malaika.

In an official statement shared on her social pages in 2021, the singer announced she would no longer do public performances under the Malaika banner. She said there was no animosity involved in her exit but it was rather to give her room to start a new chapter in her career and grow.

Tshedi wished Bongani well in his career, granting him the liberty to replace her, and said she would continue thriving in her career as a singer, businesswoman and social activist while juggling motherhood.

“If there is one thing being part of Malaika has taught me over the years, it is that life is too short to not chase any dream a person might have. That said, I hope my decision would serve as inspiration to anyone out there who might be scared to chase their goals individually and independently”.
