Kwaito star L'vovo Derrango is tired of people trying to cancel him from making music.

His long-time friend and producer Zakes Bantwini announced a line-up of Boity, Tbo Touch, Kelvin Momo, Major League DJz and Young Stunna, among others, for his 20th anniversary concert at the Durban ICC on July 5. What stood out was the exclusion of the Newcastle-born L'vovo.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, L'vovo said he isn't concerned.

uMadida nami [Zakes and I] are brothers and I'm not worried that my name isn't part of the line-up. I'm going to be there to perform ... my fans mustn't be hesitant,” he said.

L'vovo said he is haunted by calls to “cancel” him from making music.

“Where would Durban kwaito be if it wasn't for Zakes and me? We are the originators of this genre in Durban. You can't cheat the grind, the grind knows itself, and these new artists are too quick to cancel me from doing what I love.

“People have adopted being cruel to one another as a norm. Well, that's not going down with me — I was born for this.

“I need production companies to help me secure a reality show so I can showcase my everyday struggle since I had a stroke and educate the masses about it. No-one has done such a show and it can happen to anyone. Its main purpose is awareness.”
