Former YFM and BBC Radio DJ Da Kruk has ventured into the accessories industry and is set to launch a range of sunglasses called “Magic Day Club Collection”.

Real name Kutloano Nhlapo, he said the first range he plans to put out will be called “Chattel”, which will be available for purchase from June 3 on his social media pages and website.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE about the collection, he said the product is an extension of what he has been doing with the Magic Day Club events property.

“We've been carefully planning, travelling and doing extensive research around the new business, and we're convinced it can be competitive in this current climate while answering important product needs,” he said.

Speaking on the venture, Da Kruk said he wants to address the lack of optical wellness among many Africans.

“I think eyewear is a highly monopolised industry globally with high barriers to entry, and it's really done so to minimise the ability for small players in the market. On the other hand, for us, it was a general progression to our Magic Day Club ethos of Experiencing Sunsets and makes sense as another product offering to our core audiences.”

He’s been putting into motion a tech start-up that's been in the planning phase for a few years now.

Da Kruk has made some great strides in Asia, especially China, and a lot of things are starting to shape up in that territory for the masses, he said.

“Our Magic Day Collection target market is young professionals who contribute immensely to the growth of our country and economy, and really this is a token of appreciation to them, hence our ‘We See You’ tagline. We are playing in the premium space and when you experience the product you'll realise how well-crafted it is,” he said.

Da Kruk continued: We’ve done this soft launch intentionally to be able to shape the business as we go without any pressure while also fully understanding the African eyewear market.”

Apart from his Magic Day Club events and Magic Day Club collection, Da Kruk hones in on his studies, but he's set to make a musical comeback again after a four-year hiatus.
