The Ultimatum South Africa's Nkateko Mahange has finally broken his silence about his toxic relationship with Khanya Nqolase after the reunion special of the reality TV show.

The finale of the show saw Khanya, who issued the ultimatum to an unsure Nkateko, hurl insults at him about his teeth and throw a bottle of wine at him.

Despite Khanya's attempt to apologise for the way she portrayed herself on the show, she has received a lot of backlash on social media.

Nkateko took to his Instagram timeline to ask his followers to grant her grace.

In the post, Nkateko said after shooting the reality TV show in March 2023, they discovered they were expecting after they decided to go their separate ways.

"I proposed a promise ring at the time to prioritise therapy for both of us, given the emotional and mental challenges we faced before, during and after the show. Shortly after shooting the reunion, Khanya and I agreed tha though we are not together, what matters more is finalising matters regarding Q [their child]," he said.

"Throughout most of the pregnancy we focused on prioritising therapy to address unresolved issues and ensure we were emotionally prepared for Q's arrival. We were adamant about not reuniting solely for the sake of our child, understanding the importance of healing as individuals."

Nkateko said watching the show a month ago made him realise he and Khanya had underlying issues they needed to deal with individually.

"We recognised we also may have fuelled a trauma bond, fluctuating between lovers, friendship and enmity, often feeling more like ourselves when apart.

"Despite the portrayal of Khanya on The Ultimatum, I want to acknowledge Khanya's support and her qualities as a mother since the birth of Q. There's more to her than what was shown, and I hope you will all get to see her in a different light in the future."

Nkateko said legal precautions were facilitating a potential co-parenting relationship as they rely on "faith, therapy and personal growth".

"My Christian upbringing influences my approach, urging us not to condemn Khanya but to support her in her journey toward healing and growth. I commend her for acknowledging her mistakes and apologising. It's been a life-changing journey for me and I appreciate all the love and support my fans have shown me."
