Sekhukhune United goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner spent a weekend behind bars.

Shortly after the PSL 2023/24 season concluded, Leaner was arrested for allegedly drinking and driving and was booked at Sebenza police station in Edenvale, Ekurhuleni.

A Sekhukhune player who didn't want to be named said Leaner was in a party mood, ahead of them going on a break as the season comes to an end.

“Leaner and his friends were arrested. Some were trying to plead with the officers not to put him in the police vehicle. One of his friends became frustrated and he was also taken in,” said the player.

TshisaLIVE contacted Sekhukhune United spokesperson Phineas Madisha, who said: “We cannot comment on this issue because it's not football-related.”

Police spokesperson Lt-Col Mavela Masondo confirmed the arrest.

Police can confirm a 26-year-old professional soccer player was arrested on May 26 and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol. The suspect appeared at Kempton Park magistrate's courts.”
